“I can see the roots of feminism and the ‘real political change’ spirit of the sixties in these prints; the culture of peace, caring and democracy – power to the people!” – Zandra Rhodes
In the above quote Zandra Rhodes rather perfectly sums up what the decade of the sixties bought to the UK; fifty years later it’s exactly what People Tree are bringing to women around the world. Whilst short skirts, patterns and loose fitting clothing liberated young Western women from the restrictive morals and clothing of the previous decades, there was (and still is) and long way to go for the liberation of women worldwide. People Tree’s ethos along with the help and support they give to the young women around the world is definitely a step in the right direction
Zandra Rhodes’ latest collection for People Tree sees Peter Pan collars, shift dresses and bold colours take centre stage. Whilst the details hark back to the sixties, there is something modern about the bold, geometric shapes of the patterns.
The partnership between People Tree and Zandra Rhodes goes back a few seasons. Her bright, bold and youthful patterns are a distinct change to the usual subtleness of People Tree’s collections. It’s delightful to see the designer’s originality hasn’t dimmed with the partnership.
Zandra Rhodes loose fitting tops and figure hugging dresses make dressing for day to night an absolute dream. It’s a really beautiful collection and I’m sure we’ll be seeing lots of the items popping up on fashion blogs across the web.
Here’s a few of my favourite pieces…
Power to the People (Tree)!
